This is the official set of rules and instructions for how to play Ace of Spades.
Ace of spades is created by me, Lex of Lex Productions.
The goal of the game is to be the first player to win by drawing the Ace of Spades or an equivalent set of cards.
All the possible way to win are:
- Drawing the ace of spades
- Collecting two red aces
- Collecting three kings
So, how does one go about getting these items? Well...
First comes the deal.
Take the cards and shuffle them.
Then, throw it face down on the table.
Congratulations, you've dealt the cards.
Whoever won the last match traditionally goes first.
A turn is comprised of either using an "action" card in your hand or drawing a card from the deck.
Then play follows clockwise.
If at any time any player acquires the card(s) necessary to win, that player has won.
If two players achieve victory in the same turn, then whoever achieves victory with less cards wins (ex. Ace of spades beats all other victories, two red aces beats three kings). If the victories are equal, whoever claims victory first wins. Or whoever everyone likes better. Or it's a tie. It hasn't happened to me yet so you're free to use whatever method you deem necessary, but I like the first one.
Ok, so what happens when you draw a card?
If the card is a 3,4,5,7, or 8 you just discard it in front of you, in your own little discard pile.
All other cards have a purpose.
VICTORY CARDS
| Ace of Spades | gives you immediate victory |
| Red Aces | Collect two to win |
| Kings | Collect three to win |
INSTANT CARDS
Instant cards are used immediately.
| Ace of Clubs | discard and draw five new cards at once |
| Queen of Spades | you are stopped until another player draws a queen |
| place the queen in front of you next to your discard pile |
| Other Queens | Can "bank" them (say bank when you do) by placing them |
| next to your discard pile where it is safe to protect you from |
| the queen of spades or other stopping actions. Once used, discard. |
| However, if anyone is currently stopped, they are all freed and the |
| Queen is discarded. |
| Nines | immediately pick five cards from the deck and give them |
| to other players, without looking. Distribute them as you please |
ACTION CARDS
Action cards cannot be used when they are drawn, they muct be saved until at least the next turn.
The use of an action card forfeits the chance to draw a card.
| Jacks | Jacks are thieves. Use one to take one card from any players hand without looking |
| Black Tens | Black tens allow you to stop any other player. If they have a banked queen, it |
| is discarded but the player is not stopped |
| Sixes | Sixes are nukes. They allow you to force one player to put their entire hand |
| in the deck pile without showing them. If the player targeted has a six as well, |
| they may counter and both sixes are discarded without anyone's hands being |
| discarded. You can choose to save up more nukes and use them at the same |
| time on one player. That player now needs the same amount of nukes to counter. |
| Twos | If you collect four twos, you may use them immediately, or on any turn of |
| yours after to enact the "Deuce Ex Machina. This restarts the entire round: |
| reshuffle the deck, and start the round over like nothing happened. |
REACTION CARDS
These cards only matter in certain circumstances. You keep them in your hand until they can be used.
| Red Tens | If a player attempts to steal a card from you with a Jack you can |
| show your red ten and their attempt is foiled, both cards are discarded. |
Special CASES
- If you ever see someone discard a card on accident (for example: they ditch a six, forgetting it is a nuke) you may immediately take the card from their discard and put it in your hand. This rule is first come, first serve.
